Direction for the time to come

This book has the direction for the time to come. The insight of the happenings around the world is very well documented. There are many things to learn from the book about history and future. And not surprisingly, when I read newspaper about international affairs, I see exactly same what is written by Dr Aniruddha Joshi. Thanks to Lotus publication for bringing such a nice book on stall. The book has meaningful cover page and back page. And publisher has maintained the quality of the book at high standards. Everyone must read this book.

Incredibly Thoughtful Collection.....

Disclaimer: I was approached by a representative of Dr. Joshi to do a review of this book, which I accepted; I received a copy of the book but declined any further compensation.

Truthfully, before being approached by Dr. Joshi's representative, this book was not on my radar, surprising considering my acute interest in the subject matter. This volume is what I would best describe as a series of essays on the subjects of International Relations and Geopolitics deftly connected to create a well written book covering a variety of security concerns world wide. The point of view is solidly Indian, with a spiritual bend, but reading Dr. Joshi's biography this is hardly surprising.

I went into the book with an open mind and without any pre-conceived notions, and simply put came away quite impressed with the eloquence and passion Dr. Joshi brings to the subject matter. He paints a vivid portrait starting with the First World War, with detailed discussions of every major military and geopolitical event that followed (WWII, The Cold War, etc.).

Dr. Joshi then begins a series of essays discussing current geopolitical and military concerns broken down by region. From Russia and China, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, Terrorism and even covering detailed military issues, Dr. Joshi presents a compelling and insightful work that I would recommend to everyone interested in the subject, if for no other reason that it presents an alternative point of view that most western readers and academics in the fields of International Relations, Geopolitics and Military & National Security issues are probably not familiar with.

In closing, while I may not agree with all of Dr. Joshi's recommendations and conclusions, he has done such a good job of illustrating his points that I cannot help but nod in admiring respect. Overall a very well executed work, and worthy of a five star rating.

This is an awesome book which covers global political issues with lucidity. Best thing is that it builds the matter by reviewing history. The author has done lot of research behind the subject matter. It is the first book about much heard third world war, which does not predict but is an outcome of solid rational thinking about world's history and current political and military scenarios...seriously must read!! Hats off to Aniruddha

I gave this book one star, not because I don't agree with the author, but because he did a terrible job writing this book. A little more research would have given him all the ammo he needed to prove his point. Hillary has been lying since she was on the Watergate Committee. She was thrown off it because of lying and unethical behavior. The Hillary apologist claim these statements are false and have been walked back by her accuser, but that's not true, her unethical behavior and hiding of records (This is her life long M.O.) did get her ousted, this was confirmed by another source on that counsel. Additionally, Hillary has been in the forefront of many controversial episodes that have earned her Grand Jury testimony and/or public scorn. She continues today with the ever widening controversy born out of the Benghazi disaster, where Congress could not find the intestinal fortitude, nor political courage, to bring her to Justice. But Tom Fitten's group, Judicial Watch, has. They were the ones that forced Congress to investigate both the Benghazi lies and the revelation of her Private and Unsecured server, a clear Violation of Law and National Security. One of Clinton's top aides has come down with amnesia and her IT guy has plead the 5th. despite being granted immunity. Yes, Hillary Clinton should NOT be elected to the high office of the Presidency, but in the mind of her rabid supporters, NOTHING this Woman could do, up to and including treason,lying,stealing and even murder, could dissuade them for voting in the "First Woman president" What could possible go WRONG ????

Worth the Read

Because I am the same age as Hillary, I remember every negative aspect of her political life. I would just add, I remember quite a number of other issues Mr. Foster failed to explore. The conflicts were many and constantly in the news during the Clinton presidency. Really do not want to put the country through another Clinton presidency. Honestly, I do not consider myself Republican or Democrat; I consider myself a true American. I just want my country to be the best it can be. I see problems with both parties and politicians in general. I hate the way our government has been operating for a long time now.The billions of dollars that has been put into the Middle East makes me cringe, especially the Iran deal -- sickening. I thought the book gave a very unbiased opinion of why Hillary would not be good for the country; however, I really wished Mr. Foster would have invested in a good editor. As an English major, the mechanical and grammatical errors amazed me. It appeared to be more like a rough draft, instead of the final copy. I did think it was worth reading. I am hoping the new book coming out on the 28th of June "Crisis of Character" will be telling. It is written by a Secret Service agent that worked for Hillary. I understand she can be a real challenge to work for.

Useful context for understanding the Iran deal debate

This book offers useful context for evaluating the Iran deal, as well as a proposal for responding to it. Much of the book revisits of Dershowitz's columns over the past 10 years considering the Iranian challenge--the prospects of negotiations, the possibility of pre-emption, and the shifting approach taken by President Barack Obama. That context is very useful to evaluating the deal on the table today, as well as the credibility of the arguments on different sides of the issue. Dershowitz points out that Obama could have obtained a better deal if he had been serious about military force as a fallback option. In his introduction, Dershowitz notes that Obama promised (publicly as well as personally) that he would use military action to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb. It is clear that Dershowitz no longer believes Obama will do so, and that Obama may have lied. Dershowitz also points out that Obama weakened the deal by wresting control away from Congress (on the Iran deal and on other issues as well). While rejecting the deal will undermine its legitimacy, Dershowitz notes that Obama may be right that doing so will place the U.S. in a worse position (even if it is really Obama himself who bears responsibility). So he proposes that Congress do two things: 1. Pass a law stating that Iran's promise not to pursue nuclear weapons is official, enforceable U.S. policy (the commitment is in a part of the agreement whose legal weight is uncertain). 2. Pre-authorize the president to use military force to stop Iran from building a nuclear weapon. That, he says, is the best backstop to this bad deal, whether it is rejected or not. But there is also more that Congress must know, Dershowitz says, about the deal before voting. A useful resource.

Iran Deal - Not so fast?

I had been quite eager to see the US and its partners seal a productive agreement with Iran. Wouldn't the world be safer if we bet on the great number of Iranian moderates, to give them some "oxygen," to help Iran join the international community as a productive partner, while reducing or even eliminating the nuclear threat? After reading Professor Dershowitz's book, however, I have my doubts that the deal will achieve those goals. The dangers may just be too great under the current terms. This book should be read by anyone interested in a thoughtful analysis of the Iran Deal, who also is interested in learning about constructive alternatives.

An Excellent Analysis of the Iran Deal and its Potential Consequences

This is an excellent analysis of the Iran deal and the process that led to its negotiation. To his credit, Professor Dershowitz - while critical of the Obama administration's handling of the negotiations - acknowledges that it is impossible to predict whether it will succeed in preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and stabilizing the region. Instead, he examines a variety of potential consequences of the agreement and their likely effects on Israel, the Middle East, and the United States. Professor Dershowitz concludes his book with two recommendations for Congress to strengthen the agreement, one of which would give many people pause as the upcoming presidential election approaches.

It is said that when one looks upon a rudraksha, one is actually looking into the third eye of Shiva. This book goes deeply into the spiritual aspect of the most holy rudrakshas and how they relate to Shiva, the supreme consciousness. A highly inspirational book and absolutely recommended!

This book is loaded with great information about the benefits of the sacred Rudakshra Seed. Apparently this seed has been used for years for meditation, controlling stress, harmonizing the body and helping with positive thoughts! The book goes into all aspects about this wonderful seed!

Dr Nibodhi Haas refreshingly quotes from the great world renowned Mahatma Amma throughout this wonderful book.
Amma has said " We should grow plenty of trees and medicinal plants, because they also cleanse the air. May diseases will be prevented if we breathe in the air that come into contact with medicinal plants."
Few realize that for thousands of years seekers from different religions have revered the rudraksha for its spiritual electro -magnetic resonance and radionic signature. Might become my go-to cookie cookbook

I love baking cookies and I was excited to receive Ellen Jackson's book entitled "Classic Cookies with Modern Twists."

The book is organized into cookie types - scooped, sliced, sandwiched, rolled, spread-in-pan and Holiday.
The book starts with the typical cookbook basics - notes on ingredients and measurements.
To review, I decided to make some representative cookies from different categories.
I was torn between the many good sounding and looking recipes in the scooped category.
But I settled in on a classic: Oatmeal cookies.

Ellen Jackson titled the book "Classic Cookies with Modern Twists" because there is a short section of additions/substitutions after each classic recipe on how to give the cookie a so-called modern twist. For the oatmeal cookies I tried the dried cherry-walnut twist. The result was a very tasty, toothsome cookie.

Next I tried the chocolate vanilla bean pinwheels. They are harder to make and take more time but the result is impressive. I didn't try a twist on these because I never made any like this before and wasn't feeling more adventurous.

For sandwiched I tried the Hazlenut-Mocha Cream Cookies. These were not hard to make; I already had a star cookie cutter so I made them look like the picture (which isn't required).
These are really good and I will be making more.

That's all I did for now just to get a feel for the book.

The book features full color photographs of some but not all cookies.
I would have liked to see color photos of all the cookies, even if it is in a montage.

I believe this will become a go-to book for me. There are so many delicious recipes that I have yet to try.
The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow.

One thing that I wasn't used to seeing is the inclusion of rice flour in many of the recipes. As someone who tried (and lost a lot of weight on) a gluten-free diet, I am familiar with rice flour and it's ability to make a light, airy product. Too much can also lead to a dry result but very little is used in these cookies.

Overall I am very happy with this book and I would recommend it.

44 cookies and variations

I was hoping this would be a cookie book that would be a cookbook that I would look forward to using with my grandson who is a budding chef-to-be. First I thought there would be 100 classic recipes. There are actually 44 and then there are variations; what the author labels as `with a twist'. They consist of such additions as: substitute 4 teaspoons of orange zest instead of vanilla bean seeds. That counts as another cookie recipe to make up the 100.

There are lots of colourful photos, but many recipes do not have a photo. Some such as Squashed fly cookies need one, so that the potential cook can see what they are supposed to look like - where most know what a peanut blossom cookie looks like.

Recipes are divided into: scooped, sliced, sandwiched, rolled, spread in a pan and holiday cookies. The recipes are not that much different than what one can find in other cookbooks - they are classics; the twist variations give some different ideas.
The section on basics and the differences in butter, flour, sugar, etc. is very good.
We made key lime melting moments, using the variation of substituting key lime zest for lemon zest, then brownies which were made with cocoa powder.

This is a nice little book. However beginning cooks could use some more information- such as the details on handling rolled cookies, although the recipes are not difficult. If you already have a cookbook collection this would not add much that is different. It would make a nice hostess gift.

This attractive compact sized book features classic cookie recipes with some variations. Cookies are divided into categories: Scooped (peanut blossoms, oatmeal cookies, chewy double chocolate cookies, snickerdoodles, peanut butter cookies versions of chocolate chip cookies, chewy and crunchy, meringues, macaroons, thumbprints, washboards, lemon melts, fudgy flour less filbert chews); sliced ( almond olive oil biscotti, lime cornmeal cookies, strawberry jam striped cheesers, tipsy fig slices, pinwheels, icebox butter cookies); Sandwiched (squashed fly cookies, chocolate sandwich cookies, chocolate dipped peanut butter creams, hazelnut mocha cream cookies, ginger lemon cream sandwiches); Rolled (graham crackers, shortbread, linzer hearts, sugar cookies,); Spread In A Pan (brownies, blondies, shortbread, hermits, honeymoon bars, toffee tray bakes, lemon coconut bars); Holiday (florentines, ginger bread people, rugelach, tassies pain d'epices shortbread, peppermint meringues, walnut crescents). the ingredients are readily available/ . The most exotic are kamut flour, rice flour and Lyle's syrup. Many but not all have accompanying photographs. The recipes are easy enough to follow although I would prefer each beginning with the temperature and pan preparation.

This is a nice collection of standard recipes. They are all familiar. The modern twists are not wildly creative. Most involve a change in flavoring, the addition of different fruit, nuts or chips. Not every recipe comes with a variation. I did make the blondies with the maple walnut variation and the Lemon Melting Moments. Both were quite tasty if not earth shattering. The book itself is attractive . I do wish it came with spiral binding because it does not lie flat. Additionally the spine of mine is already beginning to give a little more than it should. Overall this is a cute book containing a nice if familiar selection of standard favorites. The recipes are easy and the ingredients accessible. It is not Bouchon Bakery but it is fun. If you are in search of reliable standards, well these cookies crumble for you.

Just Wooooooooooooowza...Did not know any of this..

So I never had a fruit infused water pitcher before now, but I did have a fruit infused water bottle. The most creative way I always have been using it, is to occasionally throw some lemons or strawberries in the middle for strawberry, or lemon water. So when I got this book with all these recipes and different things to infuse into my water, I couldn't believe how many there were. It was like a new world of water to me haha.

When I opened the book, it begins with the contents (No shocker there). But then it started on the beauty of water where it explained about things such as to stay hydrated and how you are not drinking enough water if you are feeling like.. things like that. Which caught my attention because I realize I have not been drinking enough water at all, which would explain some things.

Then it gave me list of a bunch of different fruits and things that I could add to my water in alphabetical order. Each thing it listed, gave a description of what that food item would help with. For example, Lemons: "Supports the liver and aids digestion. Lemons have an antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, as well as a cooling effect." I for one, did not know that lemons helped with that, bt then again I'm pretty clueless on this like I said in the beginning. But you get the idea.

Next chapter, was all about how to use your water infused pitcher and a list of a successful water infusion. If you thought all you did was throw some water in with a couple of strawberries, (At least that's what I thought at first..) OH-HO-HO my friend! You are so wrong.

After that, it's all delicious water infusing recipes from there. It gives you the name of the recipe, how to pre-pare each one, and some notes/tips about why it is good for you, and what you need to know about it. I tried two of them that same day, and it brought my thought about water, to a whole new level.

I am pretty impressed with this little book and all the helpful information and recipes it gives you. It explains everything in so much detail and the recipes are fun to try. Great way to stay healthy, hydrated, and add a little flavor to your daily routine. You will learn to feel good, while actually started to feel good. I love it. I was so happy to be able to try this out as a sample to give my honest review on it to everyone. A really good read, and to refer back on for different recipes for water. (Way more interesting that it sounds.)

This is by far my favorite recipe book I have in my kitchen

This is by far my favorite recipe book I have in my kitchen. At first I thought I wouldn't need this book as I figured it was pretty simple enough to do infused water/tea. I am so glad I decided to look past that and open this book up. This book is packed with an abundant supply of really great recipes. Recipes I would have never thought about without it's help. I will also say that this book also helped open my eyes as to just how endless the combinations for infused water/tea really are. It really helped push me out of my normal infused tea. I also really appreciated the measurement conversions chart in the back of the book, it came in handy on several occasions. Another thing I really liked about the book was how the chapters were divided so if I need a morning pick me up I could just flip to the energizing infusions and find the perfect recipe. There are also several helpful tips in the front of the book that helped me learn even more. I highly recommend this book as a great addition to infusing. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Excited to try the delicious recipes in this book!

Now that I am really getting into these infused water ideas, I am so glad I got a chance to check out this Fruit Infused Water recipe book. All I could think of was using lemons, strawberries or cucumbers in my water. Now that I have this book it has over 98 recipes that I can try. I never imagined or even had a clue there were so many different things you could add to your infused water bottles or pitchers. Not only does this book give you all those new recipes, but it also gives you 10 snack recipes for your leftover fruit so that you are not wasting it. You also receive a complete guide to the health benefits of each fruit. This book also offers handy advice for serving, freezing, hydrating, and carbonating. Plus 10 tips for making foolproof infusions. This book has a little bit of everything in it. Another great thing is this book is so little that I can stick it in my bag along with my water bottle if I was staying over somewhere and I can make it there while I am on the go. Of course after buying whatever I am putting in the infused water bottle. This book breaks it down and is real simple to follow. I am excited to try all the new recipies.

About the Author
Gilbert Doctorow is a professional Russia watcher going back to 1965. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College (1967) and holder of a Ph.D. with honors in history from Columbia University (1975). After completing his studies, Mr. Doctorow pursued a buisness career focused on the USSR and Eastern Europe. For 25 years he worked for US and European multinationals in marketing and general management with regional responsibility. From 1998-2002, Doctorow served as the Chairman of the Russian Booker Literary Prize in Moscow. He is a today co-founder and European Coordinator of the American Committee for East West Accord Ltd. based in Brussels. If you are not satisfied with what the Western main stream tells about Putin and Ukarine, this is a must read. It will never be a classic, it is not that kind of book, but it will bring you up to steed.

Buy! This! Cookbook! ASAP!

Buy it. I can't recommend this book (or her first book, OMG, That's Paleo?) enough. First and foremost, I'm totally anti-clutter so a cookbook doesn't make it onto my bookshelf unless I've vetted it through the library first (thanks Prospector!). That said, this was the ONLY cookbook I didn't vett prior to buying. In fact, Juli's paleo cooking prowess wooed me into pre-ordering via amazon. Booyah! Zero regrets. Just sayin'.

Lemme preface this review with this "warning:" If you're gonna get your undies in a bundle over an occasional expletive, then you may wanna stop right here and look for another cookbook. Like The Joy of Cooking. It's pretty straight and narrow and I can't imagine it offending anyone. But I may drop a swear word/swear word censored with asterisks and you'll also see them in Juli's cookbook.We all good? K. Moving on then.

Not gonna lie. The first recipe I tried was the basil, mint, and cuke g&t (pg 267). In my defense, although I received the book on August 18, I didn't have time to even look at the book until August 29th, which fell on a Saturday, so yeahhhh, I wanted a cocktail. And it was phenom. PHENOM.

My husband and I ADORED the chicken carbonara casserole (pg. 94). The greatest thing is that there's no coconut milk in it!!!!!! I'm not anti-coconut milk by any means, but SO many paleo sauces use this as the base and frankly, I get sick of it. Furthermore, the buffalo chicken casserole (pg. 80) is also outta this world. If you're questioning whether to try a paleo cookbook and/or this cookbook in particular, have you taken a gander at The Perfect Pizza (pg. 136)? Get! Outta! Town! I'll readily admit, it's no substitute for LaPorte pizza, but it's the best paleo pizza we've eaten. Dead. Serious. I could keep listing all of the recipes we've tried and loved, but to keep this review relatively brief, I won't. (WelloktwistmyarmIllgiveyouafewmore. Dairy free pesto mayo, hoisin sauce, guasacada anyone? Yep. I'm totes a condiment girl. Gimme some of anything and I'll dip the s**t outta that.)

Moving on to the layout. Quite frankly, if a paleo cookbook doesn't have pictures, names, and page numbers of all of the recipes in sequential order shown either in the front or back of the book as like an index type deal, I put it down. At that point I'm done like a tom turkey (also paleo). Right then and there, you've lost me. Juli's book has this. I'm visually oriented, what can I say. (Speaking of which, HAVE YOU SEEN THE PIC OF THE LAYERED FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE ON PG. 242? Yeah. I wanna smash my entire face right into that gorgeous looking cake. No, I haven't made it, but if it's anything like any of her other desserts, it's nothing short of spectacular.) I can't speak to the dessert section because I can't even articulate the enormity of my sweet tooth. I've tried a few of her desserts in the past and they are just off limits to me hey're that tasty. Also, I LOVE that she has flaps on the book cover so that I can use them as pseudo bookmarks. I love the pics (I try not to stare and salivate for too long), she includes recommendations for other dishes that would pair well with that dish or that you might enjoy if you liked said dish, and finally, although I don't spend a lot of time reading her anecdotes, those I do read I find comical, so you might as well. I'm a straight shooter and I don't sugar coat things and my impression is that she doesn't either. Finally, I don't particularly enjoy cooking. I don't wanna spend my entire afternoon and evening in the kitch. Juli's recipes are quick and tasty. Yet another selling point as far as I'm concerned.

My only criticism, and this is completely personal preference, but I don't think the stevia in the sweet almond milk in necessary. That's the only ingredient I'd omit.

Here's the deal folks. If you're on the paleo fence, I strongly encourage you to check out her blog (paleOMG). She has about a bajillion recipes there dating back to at least 2011 that you can check out for free. FREE! My husband and I have been eating paleo since October, 27 2014 (yes, I do remember the exact day) and we haven't made the same recipe twice, most of which came from Juli's blog and/or one of her two previous cookbooks. Don't be surprised if for the first two weeks of eating paleo meals you're left thinking, "Hmmm, these recipes are largely mediocre." Give your palate time to adjust to healthy eating and I SWEAR to you that you'll find these recipes are as tasty if not tastier than what you've been eating. Your taste buds are overstimulated by the processed foods you eat (ever wonder why that Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal is so freaking spectacularly delicious?? Yep. You know what I'm talking about. Or just Google it.)

Am I friends with Juli? Nope. Have I met her? Nope. Did I receive a free copy to preview? Nope. Do we live about an hour apart geographically? Yep. Point being: I'm singing accolades because Juli truly deserves them, not because I have a vested interest in Juli or whatever she does. I'm a vocal gal. If I like something, you'll know. If I dislike something you'll know. I love love love this cookbook (as well as her book OMG that's paleo? (I'll admit The Paleo Kitchen was my least favorite cookbook, but in her defense, at least from an outsider's perspective, that cookbook was a collaborative effort, not an individual one. Not sure whether that had anything to do with anything.) I just wanna grab Juli by the shoulders, give her a little shake whilst asking her, "When is your next cookbook coming out?!?!?!?!!)

Juli Bauer's new cookbook does NOT disappoint!

I own Juli's previous book, The Paleo Kitchen, that she co-authored with George Bryant. I am a HUGE Juli fan (I've been reading her blog since back in the day when she used to cuss and was unapologetic about it.), but I didn't like the recipes in The Paleo Kitchen one bit--and I tried a bunch of them. I was hopeful that The Paleo Cookbook would be better. Well guess what? It does NOT disappoint! I got it in the mail yesterday and went out to buy the ingredients for the Maple Bacon Pork Loin, Spiced Sweet Potatoes, and the Basil, Mint, & Cucumber Gin & Tonic. We were in Paleo heaven last night! Even my 15-year-old son who said he wasn't "into" pork wolfed down about 1/2 a loin saying, "Wow, pork loin is actually good when it's cooked right!" He even swore some sort of an oath by the maple bacon sauce that he loved so much, but I was ignoring him and didn't catch all of it.

For lunch today I made the tortillas and was SUPER pleased with how they turned out. We ended up eating them with everything for the next three days--even the picky teen was eating them straight off of the pan. For lunch, I threw in some leftover pork and sweet potatoes from the night before, topped it with a little white cheddar, chopped spinach, and Sir Kensington's Chipotle Mayo--oh WOW! As I write this, I am drinking the Chunky Monkey breakfast shake (delish!) post workout and planning to make the Prosciutto Herb Frittata with hash brown patties for BFD (breakfast for dinner) tonight. I made the dirty chai chocolate muffins...which my 15-year-old scarfed down. Usually he won't touch my "healthy" foods, but you should have seen his eyes light up when he saw that I had packed him a muffin for his "to-go" breakfast.

I love that Juli's recipes are fairly simple and very easy to follow; you will too! Go on, buy this cookbook, you won't be disappointed. It's as cute and fun as she is!

Update 8/30/15: Okay really, I just keep cooking and cooking these recipes, they are so crazy good--my family is tired of hearing about Juli Bauer and PaleOMG, but they are super happy that I keep cooking from this book. We have a bunch of short ribs that I couldn't figure out how to cook, so I made the Slow Cooker Short Rib Tostadas, and we would have been willing to eat the meat by itself! The recipes in this book are simple but amazing.
