Born in Ft. Worth and raised in Aledo, E. R. Bills has a BA in journalism from Texas State University. He lives with his family in North Texas and does freelance historical, editorial and travel writing for publications around his home state. He is also the author of The 1910 Slocum Massacre: An Act of Genocide in East Texas (The History Press, 2014) and Texas Obscurities: Stories of the Peculiar, Exceptional and Nefarious (The History Press, 2013).

You NEED to read this

This is a very difficult book to read and I've had to take it in small doses....which is good, because it's extremely important that we know these things about our history and that we take the time to think about them and their implications for our future. I'm a 6th generation Texan and I know there are some racists among my ancestors. But we must acknowledge these things and move on to make this a better place for ALL and make sure these things never happen again.

Brilliant and insightful. Cutting through the decades of cover-up, Jim Crow, institutionalized racism and the passing down through generations of my fellow Texans of their belief system in which black lives simply don't matter.
